The Disk Array Enclosure (DAE) is the “capacity building block” of the array. It contains:
• From 0 to 15 disk dual ported drives of varying size
• Two Link Control Cards
---Act as the Fibre Channel hubs for the drives on that enclosure
— Have the ability to expand to other DAE’s through the EXP port.
— Connect to previous enclosures via the PRI Port.
• Power supplies with integrated fan packs.
In DAEs that contain ATA drives, the LCC card is modified to convert serial ATA to Fibre Channel. The modified Cards are called Bridge Controller Cards (BCC).
